iPARENT: raising humans in the screenage
About Course
ha! We got dealt a raw deal, hadn’t we? In the age of information-at-our-fingertips, we are more unprepared for safeguarding, protecting, and managing our children in today’s screenage than any who ventured parenting before us. Why? Because we are digital immigrants! Our children know more than us – way more – and that is not going to change. To put it into perspective – parents born in the 1970’s and 1980’s hold a unique historical position. We were the last generation to grow up without the Internet, yet we are the first to be in charge of our children’s digital world. Dilemma? I think so.
Our children, on the other hand, are born into this screenage. They do not know a world without screens. They are influenced by more information, temptation and peoples from around the world, than we ever were. It takes time and effort to turn a toddler adept at swiping across a tablet into a teenager who uses technology safely, wisely, ethically and productively. So how can we be in charge of teaching them when we are the digital parent pioneer? By educating and preparing ourselves to act in ways that are new, bold and courageous.
Think of this course as your “online bodyguard” – helping you to safeguard your kids as they navigate the screenage. So, welcome to the digital jungle, iParent! We will navigate our way through it, together. You are not alone. You’ve got this.
