Our Story

so you want to know the story behind eye love? Are you sure you’re ready for it? It is part annoying husband, part adventure, with a little dash of horrified “WHAT-WAS-I-THINKING” thrown in-between. It’s pretty intense. If you really want to know how it happened, very well – grab yourself a cup of coffee and a bag of chips, settle into a nice comfy chair and I’ll tell you the epic tale that is… the eye love saga.

well, basically if I had to start from the very start, it would involve an expensive love-affair with fashion {my favourite f-word}, an account of how I tamed my husband, and the birth of a child in Italy {natural, no pain medication, with two midwives who could only speak Italian, and me-in-pain who could not speak a word of Italian}, but that would just get messy, so I’ll start off our story with the annoying husband part.

let me tell you something about my husband: he has a great, creative mind. He has wonderful ideas, but he does not like to see things through to completion. He wants to dream it, and leave the execution to someone else… also known as ME! In contrast to him, I dot my i’s and I cross my t’s.

so my husband had this idea – this “online-something” idea that he wanted to pursue. The “something” obviously had to be fashion {recall my love-affair and favourite f-word}. And being the introvert, busy professional and mommy I am – the “online” part of it grabbed my attention. It is the only way I get any peaceful shopping done these days {usually late at night, when the wildlings I call my family are all fast asleep. You know – that “mom-zombie” hour where you battle between going to bed to catch up on some much needed zzz’s versus staying awake to finally get some alone time.} But I am diverting. Back to eye love’s story. Have I mentioned that it was a nagging idea? Nagging – because he kept on at it and would not let it go. So finally, one Friday evening after pizzas and a glass of red wine, I caved and we went online in search of domains and registrations and FTPs {basically all the jargon that does not make sense to me at all}. And this is where things get interesting – real interesting. The advertisement read “ONLY $5!” I was like – how bad can it be – for “ONLY $5!” I can easily back out, without wasting too much money… Apparently the fine print read $5 per month for three years all deducted in one lump sum from MY CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT! EEK! So basically, eye love was our “unplanned pregnancy”, because when that lump sum went off, I knew there was no backing out anymore and that we had to make it work.

and this is where the adventure started. I loved designing the website – from scratch I’ll have you know! It was a wonderful creative outlet and amazing challenge. It will forever be a work-in-progress, but I love how it has evolved from its humble beginnings. Our goal right from the start was that eye love would be all about kids – and stylish kids at that. We wanted to make shopping super easy and convenient: browse around; click what you love; make your kid stylish. {Moms are too busy and too tired for complicated shopping.} We are committed to excellent service delivery and excellent quality products – as we like to put it: it is not more expensive, it is better quality.

and as for the name: I entered a competition {I regularly do, but never win – please tell me you can relate!} If I recall correctly, you could win an awesome leather Ipad pouch or something. To enter, you had to come up with a slogan and I entered with “eye love”. I thought the play on words were so cool. It combined the pop culture phrase of “I LOVE!” with the play on “loving what you feast your eyes upon”. I am still sans my leather Ipad pouch, but the name stuck. So when it came time to name our unplanned business, eye love just made sense.

fast forward a couple of years and exciting changes loomed. With growth came change and 2021 saw the birth of WOLFIE THE RABBIT – an exciting lifestyle brand.  You will still find some of your children’s favourites, but now also beautiful gifts and décor for mom.

there have been many moments where anxiety, fear, fatigue and insecurity invited me to think, “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING, WOMAN?!” But WOLFIE THE RABBIT has become our other baby. It is a creative labour of love, and a beautiful adventure. However, none of this would be possible without you, our beautiful customers. So we want to end off our story with the biggest, most heartfelt thank you for your beautiful support of an annoying husband, an i-dotter and two beautiful souls we get to call our children.

The end. The beginning. ❤️
